Our Story
Marrying my best friend is the best thing that has happened to me. I often feel that i have the best of both worlds -- I have both a loving husband and ever-supportive best friend :)
Weixiang and I had known each other for several years. We started off as friends in medical school in 2005 and our friendship took many years to get to where it is today.
Interestingly, we often forget how long we have been dating (the truth is, it is not very clear either) and the transition was somewhat gradual. Just like friends seldom celebrate anniversaries, we don't either (and probably the reason why we keep forgetting). Anniversaries are not that significant when I love every single day with his company.
I was asked what are the things I like about Weixiang and if I had to list, I'll definitely take forever. But underlying them all, a prominent theme is that we have a lot in common.
Weixiang and I share the most unbelievable number of things in common. From our favourite colour (green), hobbies (photography, travelling etc) to the preference for salted cinema popcorn.. no wonder we always have a lot to talk about. In retrospect, perhaps we probably had watch a lot of movies beside each other when we're out with friends because most people prefer sweet popcorn.
Weixiang may appear stoic or even geeky/nerdy to many but he is one person who can make me happy so effortlessly. He surprises me in the most subtle and covert ways -- like repairing my laptop and replacing the desktop background with the a picture of my favourite species of butterfly (a pleasant surprise when my computer booted up), plugging earphones playing my favourite song into my ears when journey home was noisy and buying me a mini version of the Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine when my own copy was drenched and destroyed in my bag by a leaking water bottle. Of course the best surprise of them all was him asking the completely oblivious me to marry him in New Zealand :)
After I said," Yes," we excitedly started our plans for the next transition phase of our companionship.
